New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen discussed the team’s future plans at quarterback on Monday, as well as what’s in store for injured signal-caller Daniel Jones.

The Duke product had a breakout 2022 season during his fourth year in the league, posting career highs in games played (16), completion percentage (67.2%), passing yards (3,205), quarterback rating (92.5), rushing yards (708) and rushing touchdowns (seven) while recording a career-low five interceptions as well. Jones’ big campaign helped lead the Giants to a surprise playoff berth and one victory in the postseason too.

“Danny Dimes” cashed in with a four-year, $160 million extension in March, but skeptics remained over whether Jones was worth the big contract.

The 26-year-old battled inconsistent play and multiple injuries this fall and suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jones finished the year 108-for-160 with 909 passing yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions for a career-worst 70.5 quarterback rating in six games. He added 40 carries for 206 rushing yards and one touchdown but coughed up four fumbles as well.

Tyrod Taylor (who entered the season as the backup) will be a free agent in the offseason, so New York will likely make some sort of addition in the quarterbacks room this summer. Jones’ rehab from his knee injury will surely impact how Schoen and company plan to address the position.
