Rheinmetall to transfer 20 Marder IFVs to Ukraine

The German company Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with 20 additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles, the company’s press service reports.

“The German government comissioned Rheinmetall to deliver 20 additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to the Ukraine. The order was placed in March 2024 and has a value in the mid double-digit million Euro range. The delivery of this new lot is scheduled within 2024,” the statement says.

To date, Rheinmetall has already delivered a triple-digit number of Marders to the Ukrainian Armed Forces as part of direct deliveries and circular exchange programs.

The ordered version of the 1A3 Marder will be equipped with built-in laser rangefinders that allow for efficient and accurate target destruction.

The company has already delivered the first 20 such combat vehicles to Ukraine on behalf of the German government in March 2023. Since then, several more batches have been delivered, each with a double-digit quantity.

Germany’s position on Ukraine

Germany has become one of the countries helping Ukraine by providing military, political, and financial support. Berlin has provided several types of artillery, older and newer Leopard tanks, IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems, ammunition, vehicles, drones, and other weapons.

Berlin recently provided Ukraine with a new military aid package.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also helped Ukraine with its European integration. However, Scholz is blocking the transfer of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, although discussions on this issue are still ongoing.
