Heavy rainfall likely in western India, Delhi may see light drizzle tonight
Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and hailstorms is likely to lash parts of western India, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh, from November 26 to 28, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
“Isolated heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorm activities, is likely over Gujarat state, southeast Rajasthan, southwest Madhya Pradesh, north Konkan, north Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada on the 26th and over Vidarbha on the 27th and 28th of November,” the IMD said in a statement.
In Madhya Pradesh, which received its first rain of the winter season on Sunday, the IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert, anticipating heavy showers in the southwestern part over the next day.
In Maharashtra, the IMD predicted heavy rains, thunderstorms and hail storms in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely in parts of Nashik and Ahmednagar.
On Sunday evening, hailstorm activity was reported from areas like Jalore in South Rajasthan, Ratlam, Ujjain, Khargone, and Jhabua in Western Madhya Pradesh, and Nashik in Maharashtra.
The change in the weather situation has also been attributed to a cyclonic circulation lying over central Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan, along with active Western Disturbances.
“Currently, an induced cyclonic circulation lies over central Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan in the lower levels, with active Western Disturbances aloft at mid and upper tropospheric levels. There have also been strong interactions of these systems with the lower level trough in the easterlies. Due to such interactions, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning/gusty winds and hailstorms, is likely over West and northwest India and adjoining central India,” the Meteorological Department said.
LIGHT RAIN PREDICTED IN DELHI
The IMD predicted light rain or drizzle in Delhi on Sunday night, with the sky remaining generally cloudy. There could be shallow to moderate fog after the rain, officials added.
The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while the minimum temperature was 10.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season’s average. The relative humidity was recorded at 78 percent on Sunday evening.
