Here’s why the Broncos drafted quarterback Bo Nix
The Denver Broncos entered the 2024 NFL Draft with one glaring need; QB.
So, why did Sean Payton land on Bo Nix as the 12th pick? There are some obvious reasons, like every other QB prospect was off the board, including Michael Penix, Jr. to the Atlanta Falcons at No. 8.
The stats tell part of the story, too. He put up good numbers in his senior year. While Nix might not have been a breakout star at Auburn, he found his stride when he became an Oregon Duck.
Payton is now building a roster that he believes he can contend with. Nix fits a Sean Payton offense. He is known for his accuracy, having completed over 77% of his passes at Oregon in his senior year. With 4,145 yards passing and 46 TD, Nix has the arm talent to do all the things a Sean Payton offense will ask of him.
Yes, that includes using the middle of the field.
Aside from the measurables that will undoubtedly litter the articles on MHR after this pick, the reason the Broncos picked Bo Nix is that he can be an impact player now. Some might question his age. He’s an old rookie, but the age and experience played a part in the selection.
Experience breeds comfort. Nix will enter the NFL with some much needed experience on his side. That can only help him as he works to grasp the speed and difficulty of playing in the NFL.
The Broncos were patient, and while some might believe Nix could have been available in a trade back scenario, there was no messing around. So why did they draft Bo Nix? Because Denver knew who they wanted, they grabbed their guy, and now the Sean Payton era in Denver can truly begin.
