Analysis: Fulham 1-2 Aston Villa
Aston Villa are back in the top four, and they have striker Ollie Watkins to thank.
The England forward struck twice either side of half-time and could easily have bagged two more assists. He set up Alex Moreno’s disallowed strike, and put Youri Tielemans through on goal only for the Belgian to have his effort saved.
Put simply, Watkins had a brilliant game at Craven Cottage.
He now has 23 goal involvements in the Premier league this season (13 goals, 10 assists in 25 games), with only Mohamed Salah managing more (24).
It is also Watkins’ best-ever haul in the top-flight, eclipsing the 21 involvements he had last season (in 37 games).
When he is firing, Villa are looking up the table rather than down it.
And he will be hoping to net again against Nottingham Forest in Villa’s next game next Saturday.
