‘It’s historic:’ Lithium- ion battery factory building $500 billion dollar facility in Greenville
GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Governor Henry McMaster joined Greenville leaders Wednesday to announce one of the largest economic development deals in the county.
EnerSys facility will create 500 new jobs for Greenville. Gov. McMaster says it also puts South Carolina on the map—by continuing to grow our tech friendly development atmosphere.
“We’re now riding the crest of new technology and innovation and everyone knows it,” he said.
The Greenville Area Development Corporation announced the new 500,000 square foot facility plan Wednesday–an investment of half a billion dollars.
“It’s historic in fact,”” said Jim Burns, the Chair of GACD Board of Directors. “It puts us more on the map than we already were,”
The global company produces batteries for chargers, aerospace, transportation and more. The new Augusta Grove Business Park facility will focus on Lithium-ion cells for rechargeable batteries.
“Every time we get an announcement like this we really hope it sends a signal to the rest of the world really that Greenville is a great place to do business. We have great people here, we have the skills here, we have the amenities,” said Greenville County Council Vice Chair Liz Semen.
Gov. McMaster says its a step to continue growing the state’s booming tech industry.
“And more and more good strong companies that are innovative technologically and overwise will be coming to our state and hiring our people,” he said.
The early stages of groundwork have already begun and they estimate things will be up and running at full capacity by the end of 2027.
