Things were getting tense for Delsea Regional High School in the final inning of Saturday’s game against visiting Audubon.
The Franklin Township school led 4-3 with two outs in the seventh, but Audubon was threatening with runners on first and second. That’s when Delsea’s pitcher turned to one of the oldest tricks in the book to get the final out. The hidden ball trick. And it was a good one!
Faking a pick-off attempt to second, the pitcher and his teammates sold it perfectly, giving the impression of an errant throw, which pulled the runner off second base. He was immediately tagged out to end the game.
