Major plans lodged for Aldi supermarket in Navan

A Dublin based construction firm has signalled its intention to build a large-scale Aldi food store and off-licence in Navan.

Byrnell Developments Ltd lodged have lodged plans with Meath County Council for the purposes of constructing a near 2,000 sq m facility at Metges Road, Johnstown, Navan, Co Meath.

The plans provide for an external service area along with a combined total of almost 100 car parking and bicycle spaces.

In a separate application, Byrnell Developments have tabled plans with a view to building 45 social and affordable apartments at the same location.

It’s envisaged they will comprise of two blocks of four and five storey buildings, made up of 36 one-bedroom apartments and nine two-bedroom units with PV panels.

Those plans also include details of how senior bosses from Byrnell Developments have been in ongoing talks with one of Ireland’s largest approved housing bodies, Clúid in a bid to bring the plans to fruition.

In addition to the planned residential expansion, there are also moves to include 56 car parking spaces, a communal garden and bicycle storage with a capacity for 114 bicycles.

“Clúid have provided a letter of support for the proposed planning application and it is the intention of Byrnell Developments Ltd and Clúid to complete commercial and legal agreements to see the delivery of much needed accommodation should planning permission be granted,” the planning file states.

A decision is expected to be made by Meath County Council by January 23, 2024.
