If NATO were to deploy nuclear weapons in Poland, such a decision by the North Atlantic Alliance would contribute to containment and meet Europe’s security expectations, according to the Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
“In recent times, events have undoubtedly occurred that increase the presence of military force in our neighborhood – in particular, the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, today this is a reality, both in the Kaliningrad region and, as far as we know, in the territory of Belarus,” he said.
Nauseda emphasized that the possible deployment of nuclear weapons in Poland would not be a threat to Russia.
“Therefore, the idea of deploying nuclear weapons is not incitement, not a threat to Russia, but again, it is an element of the containment system, which should play a truly significant role as a deterrent factor and force,” he said.
Deployment of nuclear weapons in Poland
Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the deployment of nuclear weapons on the country’s territory is being discussed with the United States. He noted that this issue has long been the subject of negotiations between the two countries.
Duda does not hide that during these negotiations he expressed Poland’s readiness to accept nuclear weapons. This indicates that Poland is ready to take significant steps to strengthen its security and deter Russian aggression.
It is currently unknown whether a final decision will be made on the deployment of nuclear weapons in Poland. However, Duda’s statement indicates that Poland is seriously considering this possibility.
