The White House announced fresh partnerships Thursday with 14 sports leagues, including the NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA and WNBA, both major Men and Women’s pro soccer leagues, and the PGA Tour, as well as many of their accompanying players associations.
Feb. 8 (UPI) — The Biden administration is teaming up with all the major sports leagues and players’ associations to promote physical activity, nutrition programs and better health nationwide.
The White House announced the partnerships Thursday with 14 sports leagues, including the NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA and WNBA, both major men and women’s pro soccer leagues, and the PGA Tour, as well as many of their accompanying players’ associations.
The cooperative will work to expand access to physical education and activities, incorporate nutrition programs and promote overall public health.
The initiative builds on President Joe Biden’s efforts to end hunger and improve nutrition through his national strategy by 2030.
The latest health effort is part of the White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities, which Biden launched last year with major commitments from the private sector.
Additional partnerships will be announced later this month, the White House said.
The new initiative will collaborate with the federal advisory Council on Sports, Fitness, & Nutrition, chaired by chef Jose Andres and basketball player Elena Delle Donne, to help promote healthy eating and physical activity.
