swine flu symptoms: uk detects first human case of a(h1n2)v strain

London: The United Kingdom Health officials have detected the first case of a new strain of swine flu, A(H1N2)v, during a regular screening. Although the person who got infected with the new strain of H1N1 is fully recovered, the authorities in the UK are still investigating the first confirmed case of a new strain of swine flu.

Notably, H1N1 flu skyrocketed in 2009, which led to the World Health Organisation declaring a pandemic in the same year. This time around, a new strain of the influenza A, namely A(H1N2)v, was detected in a routine flu screening test at a GP surgery in North Yorkshire, reported BBC.

The authorities in the UK are stepping up in their efforts to find out the source of the infection and the risk it is associated with for human health. The H1N1 flu, also sometimes referred to as swine flu, has historically affected birds, pigs, and humans. If a person gets infected with the influenza A virus, in most cases it clears on its own as per the Mayo Clinic.

But in several cases, it could lead to further health-related complications. Confirming that the person affected in the UK had fully recovered from the new strain of the influenza A virus, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) informed that the person had respiratory symptoms and a mild illness.

But what are the symptoms of the H1N1 flu? The most commonly found symtoms are: Fever (but not always), Aching muscles, Chills and sweats, Cough, Sore throat, Runny or stuffy nose, Watery and red eyes, Eye pain, Body aches, headaches, Tiredness and weakness, Diarrhea, Feeling sick to the stomach and vomiting, but this is more common in children than adults. All these symptoms are in accordance with the experts at the Mayo.

But the strain is not the same as H1N1, which led to the swine flu pandemic in 2009. In the 1990s and 2000s, viruses that were circulating in pigs, birds, and people carried genetic material that was incorporated into H1N1. Experts believe that the virus is different from the ones circulating in pigs. The new virus now circulates seasonally in humans, suggesting that the symptoms may vary.
