Scouting report: Sayin, the only consensus five-star recruit at any position in the West in this class, headlines both this year’s group of passers and this year’s Western 100 list overall. The Elite 11 MVP, Sayin passed for 2,369 yards and 24 TDs his final high school season, and finished his career with a 70.6 completion percentage, 7,970 passing yards and 86 TDs through the air, per MaxPreps. He added another nine career scores rushing. “He’s an accurate passer, poised and understands timing and anticipation,” 247Sports’ most recent scouting report of Sayin reads. “His physical tools in terms of his size and arm strength took a jump this year and he played with a lot more twitch in his game.” Sayin was the top signee in Alabama’s high school class when he signed with the Crimson Tide in December, but eventually entered the transfer portal following Nick Saban’s retirement and the coaching changes in Tuscaloosa and later committed to Ohio State. Sayin is the consensus top quarterback and overall recruit in California and the West in the 2024 class, and nationally ranked on the Top247 (No. 20), Rivals250 (No. 6) and ESPN300 (No. 9) lists. He was also on the Under Armour All-American Bowl roster this winter. … Brown led California powerhouse Mater Dei to the CIF Open Division state championship this fall, throwing for 310 yards and four TDs in the title win to complete a 42-2 career as a starter with his second state trophy. Brown tallied 2,950 passing yards and 39 TDs as a senior, and posted a 70.5 completion percentage during his career, throwing for 9,289 yards and 115 TDs, and rushing for eight more, per MaxPreps. The top-rated recruit in Stanford’s signing class, Brown is also nationally ranked on the Top247 (No. 192), Rivals250 (No. 207) and ESPN300 (No. 231) recruiting lists. He was also an Elite 11 finalist and named “Mr. Football” by Cal-Hi Sports as a senior. … The Washington Huskies’ new coaching staff is reloading at quarterback in 2024, adding a pair of four-star high school recruits in Etiwanda’s Davis and Basha’s Williams in addition to Mississippi State transfer Will Rogers. Davis threw for 2,618 yards and 25 TDs as a senior, while rushing for seven more TDs, enrolled in Seattle last month and briefly entered the transfer portal before later opting to remain with the Huskies. He is the top-rated high school recruit in UW’s class. Williams signed with Arizona in December, and was an early enrollee in Tucson, but will head to Washington after committing to the Huskies last month. Williams piled up 3,250 passing yards and 34 TDs and 1,136 rushing yards and 20 TDs as a senior, per MaxPreps, and threw for 10,000 plus yards and 93 TDs in his career while also rushing for more than 2,7000 yards and 42 TDs. He is nationally ranked on the Rivals250 (No. 170) and ESPN300 (No. 227) lists, and considered the top pocket passer in the West in this class by ESPN. He was also an Elite 11 finalist, on the All-American Bowl roster and named Arizona’s high school player of the year by the Arizona Cardinals. … Wilson, the younger brother of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, was named Utah’s Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior after leading the state in passing (4,595 yards, 49 TDs) and pacing Corner Canyon to a 6A state title. He was also an Elite 11 finalist, named to the MaxPreps All-America first-team and named “Mr. Football” by the Deseret News in 2023. Wilson is nationally ranked on the Rivals250 (No. 159) and considered the top player in Utah in the class by Rivals and the top dual-threat quarterback in the West. … Barnett is the top quarterback recruit in Colorado in 2024, and considered the state’s top player by Rivals, while Caminong is the top quarterback recruit in Washington in this class. The Ducks’ signing class ranks fourth overall in the nation in 2024, with Rushing and Breland as the top two defensive signees. Rushing was the highest-ranked recruit in the class prior to Bair’s commitment over the weekend, and is considered the consensus top recruit in Arizona in 2024, as well as the consensus top edge rusher in the West. Myers is considered the top recruit in Colorado in 2024 by 247Sports, and is the top signee in Colorado State’s class, now rated as a four-star safety. … Clark and Patu are both listed as athletes — both were standout receivers and defensive backs in Seattle’s 3A Metro League — but could play defense at the FBS level. Clark, considered the top athlete in the West by 247Sports, signed with Arizona in December, but decommitted following coaching changes as is now the region’s top uncommitted recruit. Patu, is top signee in WSU’s class, and posted 813 receiving yards and 14 TDs while also hauling in four interceptions on defense as a senior at Roosevelt. The Cougars list Patu at defensive back. Patu’s older brothers, Orin Patu and Ari Patu, were also Western 100 selections in 2019 and 2021.
