Three more lump sums are set to be paid out this week to help alleviate the pinch of the cost of living crisis as households enter the bitterly cold winter months.

These supports were introduced as part of Budget 2024 and are the second batch of a total of nine lump sum payments that will be paid between November 2023 and January 2024.

The first three were handed out last week, which saw some 409,000 households receive a €300 fuel allowance support, while others received a €400 disability support grant and working families were handed a €400 once-off payment.

All the lump sums are automatically paid – people do not need to apply for them.

Starting this week eligible people will receive:

  • €100 cost of living lump sum payment for people getting an Increase for a Qualified Child (to be paid per qualified child).
  • €400 cost of living lump sum payment for people getting Carer’s Support Grant.
  • €200 cost of living lump sum for pensioners and people with a disability getting the Living Alone Increase.

Speaking about the payments being handed out this week, Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys said: “The Government is conscious that the cost of living crisis continues to impact families the length and breadth of the country.”

She added: “This suite of lump sum payments means that people will have extra money in their pockets, which will ease the pressure and stress that many households are facing.”

In addition to the series of lump-sum payments, Minister Humphreys also secured across-the-board welfare increases of €12 per week from January 2024, and a range of targeted measures to take effect throughout 2024.

The full list of Budget 2024 Social Protection measures is available on the government’s official Budget 24 webpage.
