Watch: Rohit Sharma mimics Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah
A video of India captain Rohit Sharma’s mimicry of teammate Virat Kohli’s intense on-field celebrations at the recent BCCI Awards has gone viral on social media. The awards ceremony took place in Hyderabad on 23 January, where a number of current and former Indian cricketers were honoured in different categories. This is where Rohit was in his element and showed his playful side by mimicking several of his teammates. He replicated his own pull shot and also imitated Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling style as well as Suryakumar Yadav’s ‘supla’ shot. Rohit, who is also quite famous for his comic timing, imitated Kohli’s exuberant wicket-celebration mode.
Not stopping there, the Indian captain also mimicked MS Dhoni’s iconic helicopter shot and showed how Shubman Gill bows after getting to his landmarks and concluded his act with his version of Sachin Tendulkar’s signature upper-cut.
India taking on England in 1st Test in Hyderabad
Rohit Sharma is currently leading the Indian side in the first Test against England. Kohli has pulled out of the first two Tests owing to personal reasons. Rohit was dismissed for 24 on Day 1, but all the Indian batters got off to a start as they pulled away and ended with a lead of 175 runs. This after spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets each, while Axar Patel and Bumrah shared the remaining four. England were dismissed for 246 runs in 64.3 overs.
For India, KL Rahul scored 86 off 123, and while Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a striking performance with 80 off 74. Ravindra Jadeja top scored with 87 on Day 3 as India ended their innings 190 runs ahead.
Before the Hyderabad Test, Rohit Sharma did speak about the disappointment of not winning any ICC trophy in the past decade. However, the captain said that the team was putting in their utmost effort and conveyed optimism.
“The last three years have been great. Except for winning the finals of ICC trophies, we have won everything. That’s one thing we’ve not been able to accomplish, but I think time will come,” Rohit said.
