Wet snow on the way for WNY
Rochester, NY (WHAM) – We’ve had a mini January thaw in WNY over the last few days, but it looks like our stretch of snow free days will end Sunday.
The last time that Rochester recorded snow was last Tuesday, but a storm system will deliver wet snow Sunday.
A storm system will be moving through the Mid-Atlantic States through Sunday night and Rochester will be close enough to the storm for some rain and wet snow.
Precipitation will start out in the form of rain in the pre-dawn hours Sunday with a transition to wet snow by mid to late morning.
Through the afternoon and evening a steady wet snow will fall in WNY.
The air temperature during most of the snowfall will stay above freezing, especially in lower elevations near Rochester.
This should help out with travel as most of the snow accumulation should be on non-road surfaces like your lawn.
Higher elevations south of Rochester will be a few degrees colder and have a better chance of seeing snow accumulation. The snow won’t be memorable with this storm system as most areas near the city will only see an inch or two of snow.
Higher elevations could see 3 to 6″ of snow accumulation by early Monday morning.
Because of the expectation of slightly higher snow amounts south of the city winter weather advisories are in effect for Livingston, Ontario, Yates, and Wyoming Counties tomorrow through early Monday.
The snow will taper to flurries and light snow showers Monday morning with clouds sticking around for the balance of the day.
