‘when frost meets firepower’: indian army artillery’s exercise to stay battle-ready near zojila pass | video

New Delhi: The Indian Army “forged thunderstorms” near the Zojila Pass at 11,500 feet to improve their professional skills and stay battle-ready amid the extremely cold winter season set in Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh. The Dhruva Command, under the Northern Command, performed an operational readiness exercise near the Zojila Pass, which is located in the mountains of Ladakh.

In a post on X, formerly called Twitter, the Northern Command of the Indian Army wrote, “Amidst the frozen whispers of high altitudes, Thunderbolt Gunners of #DhruvaCommand forge thunderstorms by honing skills beyond #Zojilla Pass to refine professional skills and enhance operational readiness.”

The purpose of the drill exercise was to refine professional skills and reflect what happens when “frost meets firepower” in Zojila.

The soldiers loaded bullets into the artillery guns and sometime after this, a sound could be heard in the valley, NDTV reported. The guns “forged thunderstorms amidst frozen whispers of high altitudes”. The exercise was performed under the supervision of a Brigadier-rank officer.

The region is strategically significant since it lies near the Line of Control (LOC) and is the lifeline which connects the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh.

The Artillery regiment played an important role in the battle against Pakistan in Kargil and the newly obtained Bofors gun delivered crucial support to the infantry. The ‘Batalik Bombers’ were deployed during the battle, according to NDTV.
