Gujarat Congress MLA resigns, may join BJP
GANDHINAGAR: In yet another setback to Congress ahead of the general election, senior MLA C J Chavda resigned his membership of the Gujarat assembly and quit the party, reducing Congress’ strength in the assembly to 15. Chavda met Gujarat assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary in Gandhinagar on Friday and submitted his resignation.
There are speculation about him joining BJP, but Chavda said he has not made up his mind yet on joining any political party. “I have always believed in pointing out the flaws of the ruling party and its policies. But of late Congress has unnecessarily been targeting PM Narendra Modi,” he said.
He stressed that he has not resigned on behest of any BJP leader, “I quit because I do not agree with the decision of Congress to oppose even good policies of government. I will consult my supporters before taking any further decision.”
Meanwhile, state Congress media convener Manish Doshi and spokesperson Parthivrajsinh Kathavadia questioned Chavda’s timing.
