serbian tennis star called ‘racist’ over series of posts slamming india’s ‘civilisation’
Dejana Radanovic, a Serbian tennis player was accused of making racist comments on social media about India. She publicly slammed India for its lack of civilisation and also shared her dislike for the food, traffic and the facilities provided for her accommodation. She was in the country for three ITF tournaments.
It all flared up after she posted, “See you never ever ever ever ever EVER again” from an airport following her three-week stay in the country. She later sent another post from Munich, where she mocked India’s civilisation. She wrote, “Hello civilization. Only those who have experienced something like India for 3 weeks can understand the feeling.”
After facing backlash for being ‘racist’, Radanovic addressed the issue. She wrote, “I didn’t like India – the country. “I didn’t like the food, traffic, hygiene (worms in the food, yellow pillows and dirty bed linen in the hotel, not knowing how to use roundabout etc.).”

“If you come to my country, Serbia, and you don’t like all those same things, that means you are a racist??? What the hell that has to do with racism?!” added the World No. 275. She later clarified that she had friends of all nationalities and colours, and it was the lifestyle she had difficulties adopting rather than the Indian people.
“I have friends all nationalities and colors so don’t go there cause it’s an absolute NONSENSE!” the 27-year-old was quoted as saying on Fox News. “95% of the people who go to India from anywhere else in the world cannot adopt [sic] to that kind of life! Of course it’s different when you are born there and used to it! How does not liking mentioned things mean I didn’t like the people? Quite opposite, I liked the people there a lot.”
Radanovic was in India for three W50 tournaments in Bengaluru, Pune and Indore.
