ISKANDAR PUTERI: The price of admission to the Johor Zoo, which is slated to reopen in April, will be the cheapest and most affordable for zoos not only in Malaysia but in Asia, says a state exco member.

Housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor added that he had received many enquiries from the public about ticket prices.

“I can still say that the cost to enter Johor Zoo, which is the oldest zoo in Malaysia, is still very affordable… the cheapest for zoos not only in our country but also in Asia,” he told reporters after a food aid handover by SWM Environment Sdn Bhd at Kota Iskandar here on Monday (Feb 12).

Asked if the zoo would retain its entrance fee of RM2 for adults and RM1 for children, the Bukit Permai assemblyman urged the public to wait for the announcement.

“It will be affordable for locals but for foreign visitors, we are looking at doubling the entry price,” he said, adding that the cost of the upgrading works at Johor Zoo came to RM7mil.

Mohd Jafni also said the upgrading of the zoo, which was opened in 1928, would ensure comfort and enhance security for both visitors and the animals there.

“After the first phase of upgrading, Johor Zoo will be cleaner and more (organised). We are also looking at having new animals.

“After the first phase, we will immediately start work on the second phase but the zoo’s operations will not be interrupted,” he added.
