What should be in your basket this Easter

‌Adelaide’s iconic Jetty Road is poised to undergo a comprehensive $40 million revamp, but while the initiative aims to restore Glenelg’s former glory, it has sparked mixed reactions from residents and business owners.

‌The once-thriving road, known for its vibrant atmosphere, has been facing challenges in recent times, with a growing number of empty storefronts and deteriorating infrastructure.

‌Holdfast Bay Council has now unveiled ambitious plans to rejuvenate the 1km strip.

‌The once-thriving road, known for its vibrant atmosphere, has been facing challenges in recent times.

‌The project encompasses a range of improvements, including enhanced pedestrian access, increased flexible parking spaces, and overall aesthetic enhancements.

‌Mayor Amanda Wilson is upbeat about the project’s potential to transform Jetty Road.

‌”All of the residents want a main street they can be proud of,” she said.

‌However, the substantial cost of the project has raised eyebrows among ratepayers, who are expected to bear the brunt of the financial burden.

‌The average household is projected to pay an additional $120 over three years to fund the makeover.

‌Holdfast Bay Council has now unveiled ambitious plans to rejuvenate the 1km strip.

‌”This small investment by our ratepayers will result in a great return on investment,” Wilson said.

‌Business owners along Jetty Road voiced apprehension about the potential consequences for their operations.

‌One of those, Massey Dashti, told 9News she fears the increased rates could further strain finances and lead to business closures.

‌”It’s very, very, very hard to pay rent and other rates … if you want to go up, I’m sure many small businesses (will) close down,” she said.

‌Despite these concerns, the project is set to commence in spring and is expected to be completed within three years.
