Shadow Climate Change and Energy Minister Ted O’Brien has clashed with Chris Bowen after the Labor MP refused to reveal the “true cost” of the expanded Capacity Investment Scheme.
The Climate Change and Energy Minister announced the scheme last Thursday which will underwrite 32 gigawatts of new electricity, which consists of 9 gigawatts of storage and 23 gigawatts of variable renewable energy generation but did not reveal the cost to the taxpayer.
Chris Bowen slammed for being ‘evasive’ on ‘true cost’ of new renewables scheme
Mr Bowen’s answer started with a discussion about productivity and the number of questions Mr O’Brien has asked him throughout the year.
“The minister failed to answer questions on whether there is a cap on taxpayer money to be spent mopping up the minister’s renewables-only energy policy via his newly announced Ponzi scheme,” Mr O’Brien said during Question Time.
“The minister is being evasive.
“The question went to when the minister will advise on the true cost of his scheme, a question he is yet to come to in his answer.”
