The Australian Federal Government had been trying to secure a deal with the United States to resettle the Rohingya child sex offender known only as ‘NZYQ’, which triggered the High Court precedent leading to criminals being released.
Sky news host Sharri Markson says doubt has been cast on Labor over its claim they were “caught off-guard” by the High Court’s decision.
“Sky News revealed the federal government was secretly trying to secure a deal with the US … to resettle the child sex offender – referred to as ‘NZYQ’,” Ms Markson said.
“A month before he won his High Court battle … Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil was allegedly asking for all avenues to be exposed and no stone left unturned.”
Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil has maintained her advice was the Commonwealth would win the case, but when it failed, the decision paved the way for at least 141 detainees, including paedophiles and murderers to be released into Australian streets.
