Energy Users Association Australia Andrew Richards discusses concerns over the resilience of Victoria’s energy system after widespread blackouts last week.
Around half a million homes and businesses in the state suffered power outages brought on by storms.
“It’s important to recognise what happened this week was more about the resilience of the energy system rather than the reliability of the energy system,” Mr Richards told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
Concerns over resilience of Victoria’s energy system
“They’re two different things – so reliability goes to … do we have enough generated capacity and storage and other things in place to replace the aging fossil fuels.
“The resilience of the system is about, do we have sufficient strength in networks to avoid or mitigate some of these significant storms we’re seeing come through.”
