GEORGE TOWN: Star Media Group Bhd’s former library clerk, John David Namasivayam, has passed away after suffering from pancreatic cancer.

The 70-year-old left behind a wife, two daughters and two grandchildren.

John was at the Palliative Care Unit in Perak Road where he had passed away at about 3pm on Monday (Nov 27).

Former colleague Lilian Toong said John started out as a security guard with The Star and became a library clerk soon after until he retired at the age of 55 in 2008.

“During his 30-over years, John was known as a happy-go-lucky person who mingled with everyone in the office.

“He was a jovial person who loved cracking jokes and enjoyed a good working relationship with colleagues.

“He would even sometimes tip off reporters to certain issues happening around town,” she said.

Toong also said he was a loving father and grandfather and was actively involved in church work, especially at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in Macalister Road after his retirement.

“I last spoke to him on Friday and he said he was not giving up his fight,” she said.

The wake will be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Green Lane, and the funeral will be held on Wednesday after mass at 10am.
