Galaxy S24 Ultra: Here’s a peek at Samsung’s next flagship smartphone

With 2023 coming to a close, Samsung’s next big thing is the Galaxy S24 series. It was speculated recently, that the next Galaxy Unpacked event is happening in San Jose, California which is essentially Apple’s own backyard.

Ahead of the launch, photos of what appears to be the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra have surfaced online via @DavidMa05368498 on X. At first glance, it doesn’t look any different from the Galaxy S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra, but there are some notable differences if you take a closer look. Even serial leakster and prolific Samsung critic @IceUniverse has given his stamp of approval.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s display looks completely flat

As shown above, the camera module arrangement remains unchanged with 5 individual “bumps” which house a quad-camera setup and a LaserAF sensor. Assuming that this leaked device is close to production, the rear still gets what appears to be a frosted glass finish but what’s more glaring is the completely flat rear panel without any subtle curves towards the edges.

From the side view, you’ll notice that the device gets a flat edge and this also means the front display is now flat. This could mark the end of an era for flagship Galaxy phones with curved edges which went mainstream since the Galaxy S6 edge back in 2015. The design change might be good news for those who wants a flagship Samsung smartphone without a curved edge display.

Ice Universe has also shown a tiny glimpse of the side-by-side comparison of the bottom chin of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy S22 Ultra. With the lack of curved edges, the side bezels and the bottom frame on the S24 Ultra do look slightly thicker. It is a subtle difference but the new setup may just provide a slightly better and usable edge-to-edge experience for the S Pen.

Expected features for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Besides the design changes, Samsung is also expected to step up its AI game for its new flagship smartphone. As reported recently, the new Galaxy flagship is expected to introduce a new AI feature which can help translate voice calls in another language in real time. This is likely to be enabled by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Another neat feature introduced by Samsung’s imaging team is ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace. Using a 200MP image sensor and tapping on the AI power of Qualcomm’s latest flagship mobile chip, you can record a wide-angle video and a zoom-in tracked shot at the same time. Best of all, both of these videos are recorded in 4K resolution.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is expected to launch earlier on 17th January 2024 which is in between CES and Mobile World Congress 2024. Since Malaysia is a key market, you can expect Samsung Malaysia to offer pre-orders shortly after the global Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event.
