Girl 'first child to be hit with stalking order'

girl 'first child to be hit with stalking order'

The girl subjected a family to a “prolonged period of harassment”.

A teenage girl is the first child in the UK to be made subject to a stalking prevention order, police believe.

The court order was granted after an application by Greater Manchester Police in order to protect a family in the Heywood area.

The force said the teenager, who cannot be named, targeted the family in a “prolonged period of harassment and threats”.

The order was enforced on an interim basis in January but has since been upgraded to a full two-year order.

‘Tenacious work’

If the teenager breaches it she could be charged with criminal offences.

The girl’s age has not been disclosed.

GMP said the order followed the “tenacious” work of Police Community Support Officer Jenny George.

PCSO George said: “Getting a positive outcome for this family after what they have suffered has been extremely rewarding.”

She added the order was an alternative to a criminal prosecution and could give the girl a chance to “turn her life around”.
