Green screamer stuns legends in dominant Aussie win

Cameron Green had a rather solid day at the office against the West Indies – but his late-game screamer to dismiss Roston Chase will feature on the highlight reel for some time.

The talented all-rounder scored an important 33 from 41 balls batting in the top-order, with Australia posting a strong total of 9-258 at the Sydney Cricket Ground despite being 5-91 at one stage.

And while he didn’t feature with ball in hand, Green was able to produce the highlight of the match with a remarkable low diving catch in the 41st over.

Green’s effort left Windies legend Brian Lara stunned, with video replays showing the 24-year-old safely collect the ball before hitting the turf.

“That’s an absolute beauty,” he said on Fox Cricket commentary.

“To his left, moving in and looking to stop the single – great reflexes. It’s not gonna be reversed, it’s a good catch.”

Green’s fielding at Test level has been a crucial aspect of his game in recent years, adding extra value and a third asset at his disposal.

“Don’t go near the albatross … wow this is a grab, I hope his shoulders are OK,” Kerry O’Keeffe added. “He’s like one and half men in the field.”

Earlier in the match, Sean Abbott scored a brilliant 69 off 63 deliveries to help the Aussies mount a first innings score, while Big Bash standout Matt Short (41) also contributed in the middle-order.

Abbott backed up his display with the bat in the bowling innings, finishing with 3-40 off his 10 overs, while star quick Josh Hazlewood (3-43 off 8) showed his class to help bowl the Windies out for 175 and hand the hosts a commanding 83-run win.

“The situation I found myself in … we had to be risk-free for a little while,” Abbott said in the post-match presentation after earning player of the match honours.

“The way the wicket played, we thought 220 was competitive.”

Young gun Jake Fraser-McGurk scored just 10 in his international debut, while all-rounder Will Sutherland scored a valuable 18 and took two wickets.

Australia now hold an unassailable 2-0 series lead over the Windies heading into the final clash on Tuesday at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
