‘Hopeless’: Paul Murray says Yasmin Catley shouldn't be NSW Police Minister

Sky News host Paul Murray says NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley “should not be” police minister and is “hopeless” after she applauded protesters who blocked the Port of Newcastle over the weekend.

More than 100 people were arrested after a 30-hour climate protest at the Port of Newcastle on Sunday after they refused to leave the port at the approved 4pm finish time.

NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley is facing accusations she is on the side of the protesters, not the police, after she told Newcastle papers she applauded those who took to the water to protest against coal.

NSW Premier Chris Minns was forced to make excuses for her on Ben Fordham’s 2GB show on Monday morning, saying she would’ve used different words if she had her time again.

“She should not be the Police Minister of NSW – this is yet another reason,” Mr Murray said.

“Her role in the Opera House disgrace on October the 8th, her role in the tasering of the 95-year-old woman; multiple times this person is not just a minister with training wheels on, she has lost her training wheels, she has lost the wheels and she’s starting to create sparks out the back of the bike.

“She is hopeless and we are seeing, as we are seeing at the federal level, at the state level here, yes, there can be new governments and new governments have a certain license to make early mistakes.

“But when you make this many, they’re only going to get worse.”
