Ipoh cops nab two suspects over series of fires
IPOH: The police have arrested two men believed to be involved with a series of fires here.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the two men, aged 27 and 44, were arrested at a petrol station in Chemor at 6.30pm on Sunday (Nov 26).
“They were arrested for alleged involvement in a fire in Lahat on Nov 24. The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for conducting mischief by fire.
“With their arrests, we believe we have solved at least four mischief cases happening in Ipoh.
“This includes an incident where a car caught fire at Taman Badrishah, Lahat last Friday,” he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 27).
Comm Yahaya said the two suspects are unemployed and did not have links to loan sharks.
“We believe they were hired through social media to cause mischief. We are still investigating how long ago they were hired,” he said, adding that the police also seized a car, mobile phones and clothes.
“Each has a record of between 13 and 20 crimes involving drugs and other offences. Both men also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said.
Comm Yahaya said the suspects have been remanded for three days until Nov 29.
