HULU SELANGOR: Let’s leave personal issues aside and prioritise the rakyat’s agenda, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said this in response to reports that both him and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin have agreed to end a personal dispute between them involving a defamation suit at the High Court.

“Both our lawyers have agreed and we are taking steps in harmonising the situation.

“What’s important is the agenda of the rakyat. Personal issues should be taken out from our agenda,” the Umno president told reporters outside the nomination centre for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election here on Saturday (April 27).

Muhyiddin said it was a collective decision between both Ahmad Zahid and himself.

“We are aware of the current situation and I do not want to further debate on this.

“Our lawyers have brought this forward and the court has agreed, and that has been announced,” said the Perikatan Nasional chairman when met at the same venue.

In a similar statement posted on their social media accounts on Friday (April 26), they said they have decided to resolve the lawsuit after taking the advice of the court.

The defamation suit, filed by Ahmad Zahid against Muhyiddin over allegations of “seeking help in court cases,” was initially fixed to be heard in a full trial in October.

Both political leaders cited the nation’s current situation concerning the people’s welfare as a consideration for the settlement.

They also expressed their appreciation to the High Court and the court officials involved.
