education ministry suspends teacher in alleged relationship with student

Fadhlina Sidek said the teacher involved is not allowed to have any interaction with or access to students whatsoever.

PETALING JAYA: A teacher who allegedly had a relationship with her 17-year-old student has been suspended pending the conclusion of investigations into the case.

Education minister Fadhlina Sidek said the teacher has been instructed to fully cooperate with the police and the ministry in their respective investigations, reported Bernama.

“The case is still under investigation by the police, and I have repeatedly emphasised that the ministry is fully committed to cooperating with the authorities.

“We (the ministry) prioritise the protection of our children, so the teacher is not allowed to have any interaction with or access to students whatsoever. She is suspended until the investigation is completed,” she told reporters after an iftar event in Nibong Tebal where she presented RM140,000 in donations to 21 mosques and 56 suraus.

Previously, Fadhlina said the ministry would only take action against the teacher after the police completed their probe into the matter. She also said that the student had been given psychosocial support and protection as per the ministry’s guidelines.

Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof was reported to have recorded a statement from the 37-year-old teacher.

In a series of viral posts on X, which had since been deleted, the student’s sister claimed that the teacher had been meeting her brother despite being told not to.

In one of the posts, the sister said their mother had lodged reports with the police and district education office, and this resulted in the teacher being transferred to another school.

However, the sister claimed that the teacher and her brother still communicated with each other and had secretly met at a beach.
