KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 27): Malayan Banking Bhd’s digital banking platforms — the Maybank2u website and mobile phone app MAE — were down for several hours from around 2.35pm on Monday, according to customers who took their complaints to social media after being unable to access their accounts or conduct transactions.
The bank, via its X (formerly known as Twitter) account, told customers that its website and apps were “experiencing an intermittent issue”.
It also explained that its call centre was experiencing a high volume of calls, causing it to be unable to attend to customers’ calls on time.
However, the disruptions, which persisted for several hours, were rectified by around 5pm — according to a spokesperson from the bank.
The bank was also seen responding to customers via X and Facebook, informing them that the problem had been resolved, though it did not reveal the cause.
Back in August, Maybank customers reported that they had problems logging onto the MAE app, which also happened twice previously in February.
Maybank had been advising its customers since early last year to update their devices’ operating system (OS) in order to continue using the MAE app. It said that this was part of its continuous effort to keep their customers’ online banking experience safe and secure.
Last week, Maybank reported that its net profit rose 12.29% to RM2.36 billion for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2023 (3QFY2023), from RM2.1 billion in the previous year’s corresponding quarter, on higher operating income and lower allowance for impairment losses on loans. Quarterly revenue grew 22.95% to RM16.01 billion, from RM13.02 billion.
Maybank shares closed three sen or 0.33% lower to RM9.06 on Monday, valuing the bank at RM109.27 billion.
