University of Virginia Centre for Politics Director Larry Sabato says Donald Trump is “not appealing” to independents, who are “key swing voters”.
Donald Trump beat former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire Republican primary 54.3 per cent to her 43.2 per cent, in another primary win for the former president.
According to a CBS News exit poll on the primary, 58 per cent of self-identified independents voted for Haley, compared to Trump’s 39.
“He’s not appealing to the key swing voters – independents,” Mr Sabato told Sky News Australia.
“We don’t have an enormous number of independents.
“We’re down to about four, five, six per cent of the American electorate that is actually independent and can swing back and forth in elections, and whoever can win a majority of those independents will almost certainly win the election.”
