Lisandro Martinez appears set to make his Manchester United comeback against Brentford this evening.

The Argentina international has endured an injury-ravaged campaign and been restricted to making just 10 appearances in all competitions.

Martinez sustained made a return to first team action after three months out against West Ham in February but suffered another setback after he sustained medial knee ligament damage.

The former Ajax star was granted permission to train with Argentina’s squad during the international break and, after returning to Manchester unscathed, could feature at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Harry Maguire was also spotted en route to west London, but there was no sign of Marcus Rashford, Casemiro or Kobbie Mainoo who is struggling with illness.

United will be hoping to build on the momentum they created prior to the international break by beating Liverpool in a dramatic FA Cup quarter final against Liverpool.

Despite that victory having appeared to create some much needed breathing space for Ten Hag, the United manager has been forced to contend with fresh speculation over his future over the course of the last fortnight.

England boss Gareth Southgate was linked to the United job but said such talk was ‘completely disrespectful’, although the Dutchman appears unmoved.

‘You know when you are working at Man United there will always be noise, rumours around the club, the manager, the players, whatever,’ Ten Hag said.

‘There will always (an) issue – you like it, to talk about. Of course we have different interests, but we are not focusing on that.

‘We are focusing on the process, we are focusing on the team to play better, to improve the way of play, so I don’t care about (it).’
