Forget gloss black, this Toyota Crown gets ‘Matte Metal’ trim

In case you missed it, the sixteenth-generation Toyota Crown was given a massive reboot. For starters, the luxury car is now available in four totally different configurations. Aside from the traditional sedan, there’s now a crossover sedan, an Estate body style (wagon to you and us), and the rakish Sport swoopy crossover.

The radical redesign and reboot of the Crown was led by the crossover sedan version. It’s been a controversial move, but judging from how many units we’ve seen in Japan so far, we think Toyota might be on to something here.

So, it’s selling pretty well for the brand, at lest in its home market. But that’s not stopping Toyota from further expanding its appeal. Toyota has added yet another variant to the Crown crossover sedan. Dubbed the Limited Matte Metal edition, it’s a welcome relief from all the ‘Black Edition’ limited edition variants we’ve been seeing everywhere.

The is finished in a variant-exlusive color called, er, matte metal. No prizes for guessing its color, then. But the changes go beyond that. It also gets matte finished wheels and a monotone paint scheme. That said, the paint needs ‘maintenance’ once a year to keep its matte finish intact.

Inside, there are a few enhacements to give the car a more upmarket ambiance…not that Toyota Crown models ever needed more of that in general. Toyota added even more soft-touch materials inside, along with matte bronze trimmings.

Giving the car a little bit more exlusivity is a laser engraved Limited Matte Metal bit of typography on the dashboard.

Mechanically, the Limited Matte Metal edition is practically identical to the standard version. The variant is based on the range-topping RS Advanced hybrid, so it’ll never look (or feel) basic compared to the already plush range-topping model.

The price? Get ready to dole out around ¥7,500,000 for one. After all, ir’s the highest trim level of the car at the moment.  Based on current exchange rates, the Toyota Crown crossover, the RS Advance Limited Mette Metal logo edition starts at just under P3,000,000.
