Two solar plants set to stabilise power generation in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s electricity generation capacity will be further stabilised with the operation of two more Large Scale Solar (LSS) Plants in Labuan.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) CEO Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said that the two LSS plants in Labuan were nearly completed with each having a capacity of 10MWac.
He said that one of the LLS was being developed by Solar PV Power Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Jetama Energy Sdn Bhd and Symbior Solar which is expected to be operational in December 2023.
Another LSS plant with a capacity of 5MWac, developed by Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC), is scheduled to start operations in Feb 2024, he added.
The operation of the two LSS plants will help stabilise power supplies in the Sabah power grid, especially during daytime peak demand load.
“The operation of these LSS plants is also in line with the development of green and renewable energy in the Sabah grid,” he said after visiting the LSS sites in Tanjung Kubong and LSS Kampung Bukit Kalam in Labuan.
Jetama CEO Ahmad Naim Uddang and SEC project manager Muhammad Faruq were present at the site visits.
Both LSS plants are among the ten bidding companies under the LSS1 and LSS2 schemes that were awarded contracts and signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with SESB in August 2021.
The remaining seven LLS plants will be commissioned and operated gradually by June 2024.
